Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

Blood on the Tracks is arguably Dylan’s best album. It’s certainly my favorite of his, most likely because it came out when I was in high school, and the music from my high school days seems to have imprinted on my brain permanently. This song is not one of my favorites on the album; there are many better songs on it, but I do like it.

All three versions are okay. Miley Cyrus does an okay job, but I don’t like the country twang in her voice. Elvis’s version is a little too hoedown hootenanny for my liking. I give it to Mary Lou. The stark production, with her haunting voice front and center, hits ya pretty hard.

Great song from perhaps Dylan’s finest release.

Damn, there’s no arguing with any one of these three covers.

Mary Lou Lord always produces excellent cover songs. Her choice of songs and delivery are impeccable.

I am so impressed with Miley Cyrus’ effort. Never would have thought she had it in her to knock out such a superlative cover.

I voted for Mary Lou Lord although I listened to Miley 3 times and Elvis twice to be sure. This version was recorded live by the Boston Subway line. Although they faded the volume at the end you can hear a few claps and a train go by. She does her usual hushed/whispered bits as if she’s practicing late at night mindful of others sleeping. Her late friend Elliott Smith might approve. Miley Cyrus and co. did a fine straight recording with good instrumental accompaniment. I was initially put of by the tempo of Elvis Costello’s version but I came around to it. Sounded like skiffle with a small drum kit and upright bass. Although I love this song, there may be as many as seven other tracks on this album that I love even more. A testament to how titanic Blood On The Tracks stands.

I voted Miley today, but I know what you mean about being surprised at her talent. I had the same experience some years ago when I found a clip of her covering “Jolene”.

I would also rank Blood on the Tracks as my favorite Dylan album.
