Has there ever been a more pleasant song? Just makes you feel like your blissfully floating away. I knew a woman who chose this as her wedding song (Brilliant!) but inexplicably chose to use Annie Lennox’s bland version (What the Hell?!!?).

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!
Disclaimer: Votes cast from Florida may or may not be counted.
I can’t complain about any of the three versions. Each of the artists took a beautiful song and all did it justice.
Ultimately my choice came down to Scott Bradlee’s production and E-Clypse’s presentation. By the way E-Clypse’s fine version comes from an excellent tribute disc, 25 Years of CBGBs … highly recommended! I love Jemima’s sultry vocals but I thought Scott Bradlee’ 1950’s style interpretation was brilliant and Sara Niemietz’ vocals were outstanding. In a close competition, Sara won my vote.
I voted Belle Starr on the strength of the harmony vocals and percussion. Throw in some strings and off we go through the desert in a convertible.
Terrible band name, however. Sounds like the name of a porn star or stripper.
I didn’t like Arcade Fire’s take but the three vying for the vote were all enjoyable. Jemima Price provided some good lead vocals and the interesting beats and violin touches were nice. I’d be down for a desert party or a remake of Death Proof with Belle Starr but I voted for Postmodern Jukebox. It made feel like putting on some nice clothes, sipping a nice cocktail and finishing the night at a downtown hotel.
Love PMJ.
I’ve always enjoyed this lovely song. I particularly like the line, “Home is where I want to be, but I guess I’m already there.” And I have to say, all three covers were nicely done. But wow, that first version – Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox – is really fabulous. Such a cool take on the song. That woman’s voice is really something. I loved this version. I’d love to be in a nightclub on New Year’s Eve, with this band doing the music.
I was rather taken with the Belle Starr version and Loverly video accompanying , but Post Modern always harkens me back to a previous incarnation romping about during The Jazz Age, a likely extremely annoying fanboy tailing about after the likes F. Scott, Jimmy Joyce and The Hem, the True Kings of gluttony, sloth, with a healthy helping of Debauchery thrown in, and somehow finding the time to pen the best prose of a generation and then some.
