One of my favorite songs from the 60’s. Brings back great memories of youth, exuberance and debauchery!

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

Wow does this song conjure up some great memories of my youth. Could remember it dancing around my head every Friday afternoon as the weekend was finally getting ready to begin.

The first time I ever heard it, it was delivered by South Florida local legends, the Z-Cars. Can still vividly picture Peter Patrick singing it with such verve, enthusiasm and expertise. They really knocked out an outstanding version, I dear say possibly better than the original. If only I had a quality video of them blasting it out at The Treehouse, I am sure they would have won my vote.

Again I have no quarrels with any of the three covers. Surprisingly, I think one of my musical favorites, David Bowie, delivers the weakest of the three. Love Richard Thompson and he does not disappoint. Along with his two able accomplices he puts forth an excellent version. I don’t know who the MonaLisa Twins are but I absolutely loved their version. I especially enjoyed that they kept the gender reference consistent with the original, as it should be.

When I heard Richard Thompson and the gals I thought surely they would have my vote. But in a big upset, The MonaLisa Twins snatched it away.

The original is a great record. Pretty damn hard to top that. Richard Thompson and friends give it a go but with insufficient instrumentation and a low register voice that anthem of youthful restlessness isn’t fully achieved. The Bowie cover has a studio advantage and the song gets deconstructed and reassembled with shifting vocal separation that sounds good with headphones. Interesting and fun but far from definitive. I voted for MonaLisa Twins. They sounded great while displaying fun and flair. I’ve never heard of them before but their take was impressive.

This is a fun, happy song. I hadn’t heard any of the cover versions, and I thought for sure I’d like either the Richard Thompson version (because I love his voice and guitar playing) or the Bowie version (because, well, he’s Bowie), but I have to say, the MonaLisa Twins gave the best version here, I think. Great job.

Really like the original. Such a perfectly crafted pop song, and one of the better offerings from a one-hit wonder from that era.

Voted MonaLisa Twins, although I’ve never heard of them. They out-dueled some heavy hitters and pulled the upset.

gimme those twins in a beat down, singing it like they’ve lived it!

Damn, every single time I hear this number hit the airwaves I can almost feel Peter Patrick and Bruno Bruno search g for a portal back to The Treehouse circa 1979.along with the rest of us

    Thompson’s version was pretty good,

Bowie, I didn’t think I’d ever think it possible , but it seemed like he over-Bowied it, almost a caricature

Original tough to top, and that lead singers has got Mooooves!
