Broc 3 - Cover Me Impressed
Everybody’s Dressin’ Funny … Cover Me Impressed!

The Original

I really don’t understand why this song is such a sensation. I think the lyrics are okay but nothing too special and the music is unremarkable. Yet its popularity is undeniable. What do I know?

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

This one was an easy call. Chrissie all the way.

I like all three of these covers more than the original.

The SKAndalous All-Stars are always fun. Their ska renditions always impress.

I have been very impressed with Amanda Palmer’s solo career since leaving The Dresden Dolls. I’ve enjoyed a lot of her work and she picks very good songs to cover. She really puts her heart and soul into this cover.

What could you say about Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders? One of the era’s great bands and this cover is impeccable.

Really hard to vote against Chrissie’s vocals and the violins are just lovely. But I’ve got to go with Amanda’s minimalistic gem on this one.

A diverse platter of enjoyment today. I really like this song and it not only survived multiple reinventions, it flourished. I was afraid a ska treatment might be too speedy-jumpy and trounce the subtleties right out but not so fast Neoclab! The reggae guitar punctuation gave a foundation for the jazzy elements to explore the song’s melodies. Well done. Always a pleasure to see miss Hynde show up as she never disappoints but my vote went to Amanda whose soft touch hit the right spot for me. Such a light touch that it sounds silly of me to say She Uked The Shit Outta That but I will anyway. When I die my 3057th death which I believe will be in Hawaii I want Amanda and fellow uker Eddie Vedder to ease me into the Pacific

I agree with Dubbs’ assessment of the original. Not bad, but a surprising hit.

Pretenders first and Amanda Palmer runner-up.

Well, I was going to listen to the songs, starting with The SKAndalous All-stars, and then I foolishly clicked on their name in the voting ballot rather than on the YouTube video. As it turns out, I liked the version a lot. Wasn’t crazy about Amanda Palmer. I figured Chrissie would be my fave, and I’d have to ask Richie to see if he could change my vote, like this was an election in Georgia. But as it turns out, I actually DID like the Ska version best. So there.

love Christie, but she’s already been Special many moons ago, ukelele chick especially bad, hurt my ears and soul

gotta go with the ska guys, gave that kind of annoying tune some much needed bounce
