Interesting how Cher spelled it “Gypsys”.

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

Nirvana was obviously not taking it seriously at all.

Inkubus Sukkabus, perhaps, took it too seriously.

But the Phantom Helmsmen … just right …

Meat Puppets! No wonder Kurt loved them so much. This sounds like Daniel Johnston on speed fronting the Meat Puppets. Could also be a miked up calf stuck in a barbed wire fence. 2: and then the Visigoths rode into the village and spared no one. Animals were sacrificed. Women danced arm in arm around the fire singing and chanting. Or maybe Maria McKee left Lone Justice to join the Sisters of Bauhaus Banshees. 3:reminds me of a realtor whom showed us some crappy abodes meeting none of our criteria. Confusing, but sure made a good house look great. After taming the untamable horse, surely Phantom Helmsmen must have gone on to accede to the highest levels of rock and roll hierarchy. Right?

    Surprisingly good post.

Inkubus Sukkubus drastically altered the lyrics, which I had difficulty deciphering, so I looked ’em up online. They probably deserved some votes.

Phantom Helmsmen kicked out a very good version, and should perhaps win. Maybe some of the seventeen reviewers who voted for The Frampton Brothers last week will login and carry them forward.

The first clip didn’t sound like Nirvana at all, but I had to vote for them anyway. Great vocals and extra points for comedic effect. Sounds like it was recorded in the mid-eighties in a kitchen in Plantation in the middle of the night by some drunken reveler using a microwave as a percussion instrument. Hilarious!

I never thought in a thousand years I would be voting for a band named Inkubus Sukkubus
