Broc 3 - Cover Me Impressed
Everybody’s Dressin’ Funny … Cover Me Impressed!

This song has had such an oversized place in New Wave lure ever since it was the first video released on MTV. Not a bad song but man did it get unusually high attention including covers by well over 100 bands.

Extremely rare recording. Came in possession of this mp3 long ago. Was never released to any outlets. Don’t know if you can hear this anywhere other than CoverMeImpressed these days …

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

Michael Cunio and friends are fantastic! The vocals and cinematography are just spectacular. But … I’ve had a thing for Sarah Silverman forever. That bad girl persona really gets me. Sort of like Joan Jett but Sarah is soooo much more attractive. Her and Walk Off the Earth put forth a formidable cover. And, well, Sarah is just so adorable in the video. So …

Hey Brother, did you ever watch the limited series” Crashing”?

great little series about a struggling, very awkward stand up comic, Sarah has a great limited role playing herself, and how she has all these misfit comics crashing at her Manhattan apartment.
      really funny stuff

Tough, tough call. All three versions are excellent. The Sarah Silverman version is great, if a little cutesy. The Scott Bradlee version is truly spectacular, and although I think of this as a more rocking song, this dramatic slow version really is thrilling. As for the third version… I hate to break this to you, Richie, but that super-rare cover version by Reel Big Fish is actually a super-common cover version by The Lemonheads. It sounded very familiar, so I looked on YouTube, and there it was, same exact length (3:21), same exact song and version. I love that version as well. It truly is a toss-up. I think I’ll give it to The Lemonheads, but really, it’s a three-way tie.

I had never heard of Walk Off the Earth until they appeared on this site a few weeks ago covering “Royals”. Both songs we’ve heard from them sounded good, but the videos are what interested me even more.

I was surprised at first that Sarah Silverman was singing, but then I remembered seeing her in “Jesus Is Magic” about twenty years ago, in which she performs several numbers.

I voted for the second act, largely because of the vocalist. Really powerful voice, and his ability to hit those high notes reminded me of Freddie Mercury.

The Lemonheads did a good job, and they might have received more traction with an interesting video.

I would have gone with Walk Off The Earth if I considered the video itself. It’s very cure, especially the children. But I wanted to judge based only on the music. Michael Cunio’s vocal annoy me; I’m not 100% certain why. But every time I hear this guy sing I find myself impatient for the song to end. So, Reel Big Fish wins by gill.
