Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

The original is a fine example of a well crafted, catchy little power pop gem, complete with a great singalong chorus. The video has it all, including humor, eye candy.

Rachel Bloom looked like something from karaoke night at the Beer & Brawl out on Highway 9.

Never heard of Lawrence, but that was pretty good. I assumed the singers might be a married couple when I noted the shared surname, but they’re siblings. That guy’s Mets jersey must be older than he is.

My vote went to Postmodern Jukebox, helped along by an interesting video. I kept waiting for the woman in the background to turn around, hoping it’d be Rachel Hunter.

Well I raved about how much I thought of Fountains of Wayne in last month’s post of “Better Things”. This over-commercialized song of theirs is not their best effort but it is solid all the same.

Postmodern Jukebox? What could you say anymore? Their standards are set so high, yet they consistently hit it. This one is no different. I simply don’t know how Scot Bradlee keeps churning out so many first rate covers and videos on a regular basis.

I think that Rachel Bloom is doing this at some sort of benefit. It’s a shame that the sound quality and editing isn’t better. By rule, this one should not have been included because that’s Adam Schlesinger in the background. But it’s my blog and I’ll do whatever the hell I want!

I often really like acoustic versions of rock songs, assuming that they are done right. Here Stories’ does an outstanding job.

I don’t know who she is but Rachel Bloom can really sing and she definitely has got it going on. Sticks the ending. She gets my vote.

This was a lot more fun than I expected. I must have seen that original video but it was so long ago I didn’t remember it. Rachel Bloom and group seemed like live band karaoke. I didn’t recognize her name but now I recall she got my attention years ago with her song Fuck me, Ray Bradbury. Worth watching once but third place. The Lawrence siblings were the stars next. Really sang well and fun to watch. I see that Gracie Lawrence is a working actor and was nominated for a Tony for featured actress in a musical. If you have to ask someone if they remember when you mowed their lawn I’m pretty sure you didn’t mow that shit well enough. When Postmodern Jukebox was 30-40 seconds in I didn’t expect to vote for them but as the performance progressed they won me over. Casey Abrams is really talented and who brings in a pinch bassist in the top of the eighth?
