Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

Three pretty solid covers of a pretty cool song. I went with PFC because I like all the different instruments and how they were used to enhance the sound.

Amazing song and three excellent covers.

Damn near impossible to differentiate between the Playing for Change ensemble and the duo of Paul and Lena. The Playing for Change video is so beautiful and uplifting that it almost won my vote, but for at least this morning, Weller’s voice carried the day for me.

Brilliant all-time classic! Snoop and Marvin were fun. I hadn’t seen that. Paul Weller and Lina Fiagbe were fine but Jools Holland was a family member and a Dozier away. U2 should be 25% Edge yet this was completely Edgeless. Overly smooth? Caffeine-free coffee shop, middle of the road easy listening. Playing For Change once again gets the win.

I usually don’t like anything Weller does unless he’s doing it with The Jam, but I must say I was impressed with this version. I nearly voted for it, but I’ve seen several videos by Playing for Change, and all of them are delightful, and this one was no exception. I’m also a big U2 fan, but Bono’s flat vocals failed to win me over.

I love the original and I liked all covers, and was pleasantly surprised by a couple of the versions.

I voted Playing For Change today. We’ve discussed them previously. Part of the magic is the seamless mix from one far-flung artist to the next. Visually and musically stunning.

I wasn’t sure if this would fit the style of U2, but I enjoyed it.

First thing I thought when seeing Weller’s name was that, as much as I love The Jam, I’m not big on his post-Jam career. I’m not completely versed in The Style Council’s discography, but don’t care for the stuff I’ve heard. Years ago, a buddy gifted me a Paul Weller solo disc. I thanked him, of course, but he later asked me what I thought. I had to tell the truth and admit I didn’t like it. The vocals reminded me of Trower’s vocalist James Dewar. Far cry from The Jam indeed. With that said, I was pleasantly surprised by his vocals here, aided by the female singer I don’t know.

Man, what a timeless classic, and 3 great covers!
was there ever a more relevant song for the times we in?
I was torn between Playing for change and Weller version, listened to each twice and flipped it to Change just based on their title and mission statement,

Cripey …. Does we ever need a Healthy Dose of Change?!?
