Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

I really like this song. Whenever I hear it I think of the Seinfeld show. They used it on the clip show at the close of their final episode.
I recently discovered First to Eleven. They are strictly a cover band but man they knock out some great ones. They would be the ultimate party band. And yeah, I’m in love with the singer. I fantasize being a young man and with her. I love the way she rocks out.
I never heard of Chrisinti. He delivers a nice version. This song lends itself well to a reggae interpretation. And, by the way, this reggae rock tribute disc, The Tide Is High, is solid. Nice addition for any lover of covers and reggae.
Wolf Alice’s version is sweet and simple but, ultimately, too slow for my taste. She practically is mumbling at times. But she does have a nice voice. Screwed up name though.
My vote went to my fantasy partner of First to Eleven.
All three covers are better than the original. Thought I was going to go with Eleven’s rockin’ version. But that reggae bass just sucked me right in. So I went with Chrisinti.
The third one was really minimalist, and I kept expecting them to shift gears.
The reggae version wasn’t bad, but didn’t really grab me.
I went with the rockin’ version by the first band.
I was hoping for some better options. The few songs I’ve heard from Wolf Alice were very upbeat electric rockers. Here with only two members they suck the air out of the tune. It should be wistful rather than a whispered dirge. To call the island option watered down reggae may be over praising it. Toned down rhythms and synthesizer. I could hardly wait for it to end. I voted for the professional cover band. Unfortunately you can’t stress the lyrical quality in this style but it sounds good.
I’ve liked Green Day for years, and I have most of their albums. People whine and complain about them – not really punk, Ramones rip-offs, blah blah blah. I like them. I can take or leave this song, though. I much prefer their speedy rockers.
First to Eleven’s version was pretty good, but it just sounded too young and kiddish for me.
I love reggae, but not THIS kind of formulaic, cheesy reggae-lite. Hated the vocals.
I went with Wolf Alice’s very quiet, understated version. That lone voice and one guitar kinda reminded me of Mazzy Star’s “Rhymes of an Hour”. Really, all three covers left me wanting.
