I like Sigi Pop’s frenetic version of Sheena is a Punk Rocker. I’m not familiar with the Ramone’s Let’s Dance.

Chrissie Hynde has such a beautiful voice that she can sing just about any style of music and make it sound great.

Yo La Tengo, masters of the cover tune, does not disappoint, seamlessly melding to classics into one superb concoction.

I was very close to choosing Chrissie Hynde’s beautiful collaboration of Burt Bacharach tunes but at the last minute was swayed to Yo La Tengo’s production. Just couldn’t ignore the brilliance of the two songs they chose to combine.

German roller derby music! You can almost see the pudgy wurst-fingered moshers as they swing their arms and chant the chorus which to me sounds like “Giuseppe Rode A Pine Cone”. Go back and tell me what you hear. Chrissie Hynde easily tackles a couple of Burt nuggets. Pleasant but not that special. Baby It’s You makes me think of the jukebox scene in Death Proof. Tarantino does the music so well. I voted Yo La Tengo. I assume this was from their radio fund raisers where they play whatever callers want for a donation. Ira doesn’t know the lyrics well but that sinewy guitar line snaking its way through rain drenched alleys of a dangerous night won me over. They could be disqualified by adding a third song in the opening when the backing was setting up Low Spark while Ira was singing Dear Mr Fantasy.

The German punk band was better than expected. The wall of sound in the background was really crankin’.

I’m surprised you didn’t know “Let’s Dance”. It was a big hit in the early sixties by a one hit wonder, and was featured on the soundtrack for Animal House. It appeared on the Ramones’ self-titled debut album, which is a must-have for Ramones fans or any fan of punk.

That’s the most I’ve enjoyed anything by Chrissie Hynde. I was never into The Pretenders, but that was good.

Had to go with Yo La Tengo. I was also gonna point out Ira knows some of the words to each of those songs.

Maybe I’m just getting old (I am), but I refuse to comment on a band that mangles a Traffic song, especially one as layered, moody, and deceptively complex as The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. Some things are sacred. This wasn’t a cover, it was a crime scene.

    I chose Chrissy.

    ‘Nuff said@!
