Many critics consider this to be the greatest cover of all time. It’s hard to argue with. Dylan himself said something to the effect that this is Jimi’s song.

Although June Tabor has a very nice voice, and although the gospelized version of the song by the Brothers and Sisters was surprisingly good, I had to give the cover of this iconic song to two iconic performers and their rousing, rocking rendition.

I chose the minimalist soul/gospel version over the heavyweight sumo wrestling match. June Tabor was good and the use of fiddle over guitar was an added plus yet the bronze medal was awarded regardless.

Three very different takes on one classic song. Neil and Bruce were obviously channeling Hendrix in their electric version. June was more Dylanesque with an Irish flair. And the Brothers and Sisters offered their spiritual gospel rendition.

I love June’s voice and music in general. The Brothers and Sisters had me swaying and hand-clapping throughout their offering. But how do you argue with Neil and Bruce on the same stage wailing away? I couldn’t.

I’m a June Tabor fan, and expected to vote for her. Good version, but not enough for the win.

Good vocals offered by the gospel version, but had to vote for Neil and Bruce.
