Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

Shonen Knife always puts forth a spirited cover, although I kinda liked them better when they still had heavy accents … made for a more adorable, punk facade.

Scarry Cherry & The Bang Bangs were pretty scary with a fun video.

The Dandy Warhols earn points for changing up the sound of the song somewhat but, overall, I was not unduly impressed.

Gonna go with Scary Cherry on this one.

I love Shonen Knife and I love the Dandy Warhols, so I expected them to battle it out, and they did, with the Warhols winning, although all three covers were good. I saw the Dandy Warhols here in NY a few months ago. Great show. That video of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame performance was pretty neat. Joan is cool, even though she’s an Orioles fan.

I voted Shonen Knife, but I’ll admit I was influenced by already knowing and liking them. I never heard of the second act, and I’ve seen the name Dandy Warhols around for years but don’t know their stuff. I’ve had one CD by Shonen Knife for years that I kinda liked. They played a very small club here in about 2010. There must have been about seventy-five people. It was better than expected. I still remember the drummer-very petite and feminine appearance, just killin’ it with a huge smile that never disappeared.

Fun and simple song with a great hook. Shonen Knife are less feral, more cute. Love their pronunciation of “world” and “girl”. A live video would have been nice. Dandy Warhols sound like Iggy’s Funtime meets The Throbbing Gristle in goth/metal hell. Pass the nitrous! Gotta go with Scary Cherry & Bang Bangs on this one. Seems like they were conceived with this in mind. Love the accompanying video.
