I absolutely love the original, and it’s right up my alley. Gorgeous melody, vocal harmonies, catchy sixties folk rock. A real favorite.
The Four Tops are great at what they do, which is usually full-throated up-temp hard chargin’ R & B. I’m surprised they would attempt this.
Southside Johnny is also a good band and when they’re in their element, they can really cook. But, as with the Four Tops, this isn’t their jam. Also a questionable cover for them.
Marshall Crenshaw wins the vote, although I thought his version was good but not great. At least he’s not playing out of position like the other competitors.
