Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

Iconic song. When we first had Brandon and Sayed in our home I insisted that before we would go anywhere they had to yell A O Let’s Go! Worked. Sayed has the song on a playlist ever since. π
Sadly an average effort on Nick Cave and the boys’ part and, of course, the quality of the recording is poor. Sounds like they were just having some fun in the studio.
Not surprisingly, Strummer and boys do a fine job. A bit low in quality due to it being live but this song can survive a bit of low fidelity and the sound is much better than Cave’s recording. They’re obviously having a lot of fun on this one!
I really like Nutley Brass’ concept of putting a brass band to standard punk songs and this is my favorite of theirs. I have two of their three cds. The Ramones tribute, which is loads of good clean fun, and a miscellaneous punk songs disc that is hit or miss. I understand their Misfits tribute disc is quite good but I couldn’t name a song by the Misfits so I never bit on that one.
Very difficult decision between two diametrically opposed versions: Joe Strummer’s kick-ass, faithful delivery and Nutley’s nutty interpretation. Had my finger on Strummer’s button before I opted for Nutley’s totally absurd, yet fun, creative romp.
The Nick Cave version sounds like it was recorded on a Walkman by someone standing in line outside the club.
Joe Strummer’s version also suffers from less-than-stellar sound, but hey, this is a Ramones cover, so in a way it’s sort of fitting.
We like for cover acts to alter the song in creative ways, and The Nutley Brass are a long way from The Ramones, but after a number of appearances on CMI, it seems the novelty has worn off for me.
Strummer and band for the win!
