Proudly thrown down by every self-respecting punk (and rock and ska and folk and reggae and …) band of our time!!!

THE CLASH of Cover Tunes
The Barracudas vs. Pearl Jam vs. Trumpetmouth vs. Skeeter-Kinney
The Barracudas:
Pearl Jam:
Killer performance at Madison Square Garden, July 8, 2003. Mega-group includes Johnny Marr, Betchadupa, Cheetah Chrome, Sleater Kinney, Corin Tucker, Mike Tyler, Steve Earle, Jack Irons, Ben Harper, Billy Gibbons, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Idlewild, and the Buzzcocks. Damn!!!
Trumpetmouth:
Skeeter-Kinney:

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!
Disclaimer: Votes cast from Florida may or may not be counted.
I heard some Barracudas’ songs decades age and I liked them. However, nothing special happening here.
What a spectacle at Madison Square Garden. Looks like it was great fun! Outstanding!!! Who’s the Will Farrell looking dude whose mike appears to be turned off?
Love Trumpetmouth’s short romp. This is from a great ska/punk cd that I bought back in the ’90s.
Skeeter-Kinney throw it down with such verve and raw energy. Attitude galore! Gotta love these women.
Thought I would vote for Trumpetmouth for nostalgic reasons alone. But have to give it to Pearl Jam’s block party whose spirited version was not only excellent but also loads of fun to behold.
I like the original and the version with Springsteen and band, but was disappointed by the covers.
I have a double disc anthology by The Barracudas which I like, but I didn’t care for this track.
As for the MSG clip, I don’t even recognize half of the names listed, and Steve Earle is the only one I like.
Trumpetmouth sounded like it was played at the wrong speed. No plans to revisit that one.
Sleater-Kinney was noisy.
Frustrating that Barracudas and Trumpetmouth’s videos were unavailable (in my browser, at least), so I only had two from which to choose (I’m too lazy to find those other ones on YouTube myself; sorry.) I like Sleater-Kinney and I was going to pick them, but that Pearl Jam version was just so great. I love Eddie Vedder’s voice, and seeing Johnny Marr up there, plus Steve Diggle from the Buzzcocks, and Cheetah Chrome (!) from the Dead Boys! Very cool video. By the way, Cheetah Chrome’s memoir, A Dead Boy’s Tale, was truly one of the best punk bios/memoirs I’ve ever read.
