Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!
Disclaimer: Votes cast from Florida may or may not be counted.
U.S. Wasteland …
Didn’t care for the Daltry / Chieftains / O’Connor extravaganza. Seemed all to contrived and strained. The Chieftains’ talents were wasted (pun? š ) on a song that just does not lend itself to their considerable talents.
Dread Zeppelin is always interesting but this one just didn’t work.
Dropkick Murphys kick-ass … enough said!
Red Hot Chilli Pipers were a delight. The title of the band actually managed to initially fool me. I thought I had read Red Hot Chili Peppers and, upon first listening, did not know what to think!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I lust after Audra fantasize … if only I were younger … yeah right š¦ But there is no denying that this band kicks out first-rate covers.
Dropkick Murpheys or First to Eleven? Very close … But while the Dropkick Murphys suffer from the lack of a video, First to Eleven soars with quite the creative opening and then, of course, quite mouthwatering thereafter. Audra, honey, this one’s for you …
Such a tough call. This is one of, if not my definite, favorite Who songs. I can hear it 1000 times and never get tired of it. Dread Zeppelin’s version was just too schizophrenic to really enjoy. The Red Hot Chilli Pipers version was really fantastic, but I just feel weird giving a vote to a novelty-ish version, like a brass or ukulele band. The Dropkick Murphys did a really raw, rocking version, but I had to give it to First to Eleven, even though it reinforces Richie’s obsession with fungible, nubile singers. But they did a spot on, perfect, reverential, rocking version that wins the day.
