Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

    Lowe’s wit is unparalleled … a winner who became a doggie’s dinner … 🙂

    J Church … sped-up, fun version.

Recently discovered Davy Lane. Does a lot of expertly performed Nick Lowe and Beatles (among others) covers. Here he does a solid job, albeit, lacking creativity.

Jeff the Brotherhood … adequate cover but I am more interested in the derivation of their band name.

    J Church by default.

I have Jesus of Cool on CD, but I don’t know it well and didn’t remember this song.

Never heard of any of the contestants, but liked all versions. Davy Lane was my favorite. Good vocals.

I played the grooves off this album when it came out. Every song on it is brilliant. It took years for them to finally release it on CD. A friend of mine had the UK version (Jesus of Cool), while I had the American version, which I thought was better (a few different tracks, different sequencing on songs, plus, the US version had “Rollers Show” on it as a bonus. This song, Marie Provost, is hilarious, and is one of my favorites. I thought we had a Golidlocks situation here… J Church version being too fast, Davy Lane’s version too slow, and Jeff the Brotherhood just right. But while I thought the tempo was fine, Jeff’s vocals fell short of Davy’s. I do think Davy was trying to emulate Nick’s twang in the vocals, and that was fine by me. He got the vote today.
