The original is great, and among the very best ever penned by Paul Simon. That’s also my favorite vocal from Art Garfunkel. I remember watching the 1971 Grammy Awards on TV as a kid. This song won five awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and the LP won Album of the Year.
I like Prince Buster, of course, but this is a questionable choice to cover, and I wasn’t crazy about his version.
John lends his solemnity and dignity to this masterpiece, and earns the vote.
Mike Geier sings great as always, and might have won amongst a different set of adversaries.
