Cover Me Impressed
With a focus on the 60's-90's music scene, CMI is a Paradiso for Lovers Cover Songs! Each post focuses on a particular song and provides its original and most popular recordings as well as covers versions. Patrons of CMI vote on the most deserving cover version, which will then live to compete again, battling other cover songs in a future post.
Bands, musicians, troubadours, and their ilk, submit your cover songs for future CMI competitions.
CMI welcomes the opportunity to introduce new artists.

VOTE, COMMENT, then do SOMETHING ELSE EQUALLY AS SUBSTANTIAL
Tough call here. All three are worthy (although not as good as the original, IMO). I was hoping to learn how to say “monkey finger” in Spanish. But it didn’t happen. I’ll probably go with Defunkt. I kinda like the idea of a lead trombone.
Not crazy about any of the versions here, really. I give it to Perfect Thyroid, because as a veterinarian who sees many cases of feline hyperthyroidism, I’m always striving to find the right amount of methimazole that will give affected cats a perfect thyroid level.
Defunkt’s version was way too long. I included it because of the many YT comments extolling it as better than the original. It probably would have been very good to see live. The Thyroid boys did I nice version but my favorite was The Tropical Tribute rendition. The participants were a virtual who’s who of Hispanic luminaries from the big band era.
I voted for The Tropical Tribute version. It thought it was really good for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes before descending into nothing that remotely resembled the song at all and lost me. I think this song with its dark tones and wriggly bass is positioned to be done well funk style but the performance and the bootleg sound quality blew the opportunity for Defunkt. Ska seems to be known for energy, verve, reckless abandon, taking sweaty chances, but this was so close to the vest. Boring. Nobody deserved a win.
