Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

Well this may sound CRAZY but I have no recollection of this song. I think that it is a real good one though. Nice beat, great lyrics, love the imagery. I can see why so many bands chose to cover it.

These four presentations are all first rate. It is literally CRAZY to have to pick one among them. But that is the game we are playing so … Along with their superlative cover, the Walk Off the Earth ensemble seemed to have the most fun doing it, so they got my vote.

(I still think the First to Eleven singer is one of the hottest women on the planet.)

I never noticed that the lyrics to this song are quite good. I guess I mostly tune out pop hits and this one was everywhere. Got my platform shoes re-soled, Crazy was playing. Got The Last Judgement tattoo removed from my back, Crazy again Donated two inches from my schwanz to a penis bank in East Rutherford, Crazy. I wish I had the publishing rights. The song survived multiple incarnations pretty well. First To Eleven do what they do. Power pop with good dynamics well performed. Postmodern- ah, the delicate touch. These classy so-and-sos always acquit themselves well AND a clarinet solo! That reminds me of a story with Woody Allen at a party up two days on Keefcaine but I’ll save that for another time. Playing For Change were fantastic! Right there on the street somewhere with a dobro and slide, a strummed acoustic and fine lead vocal. Thought I would vote for them first time through but opted for Walk Off The Earth because they’re so damned fun. And they look like they’re having a blast.

Damn you, Winston. You make it too difficult when you present multiple excellent covers. Actually, this wasn’t as tough as the Big Star “Thirteen” vote. First to Eleven’s version was too polished for me, too choreographed and professionally done.

Post Modern Jukebox always throws a monkey wrench into the voting process because they’re a genre unto themselves. Hard to vote when you have three apples and one orange.

Walk off the Earth do a great version and they certainly are having fun doing it, and are enjoyable to watch. But I went for Playing for Change just for the simplicity of it all. Two guitars, one great voice, sitting on some steps, showing you don’t need much to bang out a great cover, if you have talent.

Damn, I loved every one of these covers, went back and played em all a second time, still at a loss, so went with the ol presidential criteria, who’d you rather have a beer with, well the Jennifer Aniston lookalike would definitely be more fun than humans should be allowed to have if I was 30-40 years younger, so opted instead for that lovable batch of Walk Off goofballs , grab a set of maracas and a brewski and join the party.
