Broc 3 - Cover Me Impressed
Everybody’s Dressin’ Funny … Cover Me Impressed!

The one thing that I will always remember regarding this beautiful song took place in early 1986. Pete and I went to see The Band at some fairground in Miami. Phenomenal show. The show ended with Richard Manuel doing vocals on I Shall Be Released. A few days later, after their next show in Winter Park, Richard Manuel hung himself. Can’t help but believe that Richard new what he was about to do as he sang it.

Whenever I hear this song I am always amazed (and a bit dissatisfied) that Johnny didn’t write more of his own material. Such a well-conceived, empathetic tune. Very reminiscent of Phil Ochs, which is about as high a praise as I can give.

My favorite CCR song by far. For years most mistakenly believed this song was about the Vietnam War. But in time John Fogerty allowed that it was actually his expression of frustration over the rain of problems the band was experiencing as his brother, Tom, prepared to leave CCR, which would ultimately precipitate the entire breakup of the band at was then its height of success.

There is a whole lot of great covers of this classic. These are three of my favorites. We may very well revisit this song sometime down the road.

Have always hated Van Halen. Had to suffer through their awful din when they opened for The Rolling Stones in Orlando of 1981. But there are some pretty good covers of this otherwise mediocre song so I have begrudgingly allowed this overrated band onto my website.
