Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!
Disclaimer: Votes cast from Florida may or may not be counted.
Just LOVE this song. This is for you, with LOVE, Cuz Kris!!!
Damn The Apocalypstics rock. Had me going!
NoFX always churns out a fast and furious cover. Good job.
I appreciated Molly Tuttle’s somewhat toned down interpretation. Rockin’ acoustic guitar! I really like this woman and will check out more of her work.
The Krackin’ Kellys do an interesting cover with some unusual sound from something called a Mossiat accordian.
Down to The Apocalypstics rocker and Molly’s excitable acoustic. The Apocalypstics by a hair ’cause I just love the spirited vocals.
Sometimes my comments don’t seem to stick for this website. Anyway, Molly Tuttle by a country mile. The others are fun but she really makes the song her own. For me that’s the kicker on a cover.
Man, I feel like Krissy would just love all 4 of these versions!
I went with Molly Tuttle, loved the offbeat black and white cinematography, felt like i was On those streets, and that guitar solo on the bridge, damn that girl can play!
great stuff,
MissYa Cuz FOREVER!
Maybe it’s just me but every time I hear this song the guitar figure in the opening twice plays a melody that evokes old Ace Hardware commercials jingle “Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man.” Anyway to the contenders:Apocalypstiks- Pleasantly amateurish. One of the most original? awkward? accidental sounding stop-start moments. NoFX- too much speed! Flipped off my skateboard and scraped off most of my anarchy tattoo. My Mom’s gonna be pissed! She designed it. Krackin’ Kellys-Arg! Barroom singalong style on the chorus! Not my favorite. Croaky, semi-comical/cartoonish. Too trashed off for my sensitive palette. Molly Tuttle wins with the reinvention. I had tickets to see her in the Spring of 2020 at a place that holds about 150 people a mile from my house. Postponed due to COVID and rescheduled for six months later which of course never happened. I knew her popularity would never allow another small show. A flat picking wunderkind, she has evolved adding more styles and collaborations.
Every time I hear Rancid, it makes me miss Joe Strummer. I know I should have given this one to Molly Tuttle, but for some reason, I kinda liked that accordion on the Krackin’ Kelly’s version, so I gave them the vote today.
