Everybody’s Dressin’ Funny … Cover Me Impressed!

These guys really should have called it quits after this new wave standard. And where the hell did they find those red vinyl suits?!!?

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

I remember the first time I heard this song and thinking … hmm … I like this a lot more than Seals & Crofts … 🙂

Well, The Suicide Machines really didn’t do much with the song but, hell, it was loads of fun anyways.

Again, not much going on with Lillix’s version but i liked the vocals here more than the Machines.

Of all of Bradlee’s phenomenal productions, strictly from a sound perspective, this is probably my favorite. Transforming a new wave standard into a ’60’s Motown/Soul creation is sheer brilliance!

Any question on who my vote went to … ask Tina Turner …

Most of us have admitted to overplaying The Romantics’ self-titled debut album. I didn’t know, or at least didn’t remember the drummer sang lead on that song.

I liked the first two covers, and enjoyed them more than I expected. But today’s vote goes to PMJ, who radically transformed the song into a retro soul tour de force.

Well, this song certainly played an outsized role in our lives when we lived in Gainesville. Doesn’t have that same punch when I listen to it today. The Suicide Machines did a very mediocre version. Postmodern Jukebox deserves credit for their total transformation of the song, but I went with Lillix, as I feel this song should be rockin’.

Three strong, fun and interesting offerings. Never heard of Suicide Machines of Lillix but both were outstanding. SM’s version just makes me want to get in the wrestling ring, jump off the ropes, swing a folding chair and send the referee into the stands. This is the type if song that got me ejected from the New Wave Lounge via bouncer stranglehold. I thought for the first minute of PM Jukebox that this might be their least impressive outing outside of the amazing hair but then Tina Turner showed up to elevate the proceedings. I had to go with Lillix with their well edited video from Freaky Friday featuring a 16 year old Lindsay Lohan. I looked them up. Vancouver band featuring sisters who were originally called Tigerlily before changing it due to another band with the same name.
