Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!
Disclaimer: Votes cast from Florida may or may not be counted.
I was completely unaware that this was a Three Dog Night song. Thought Bowie owned it … but when you come to think about it … he does!
I really like what Bettye did here, putting some down-home soul to the melody. Sounded like she owned it … and what more can you ask out of a cover?
Some great guitar pickin’ on the Ron Davies’ intro followed by a somewhat gospel revelation. Interesting, very interesting …
Always liked Dave Edmunds but his cover didn’t do much for me.
Bettye gets the vote.
I’ve had Ziggy Stardust on vinyl since high school or college. Still my favorite Bowie album. I didn’t remember this was a cover.
Bettye LaVette does an interesting take, not bad.
Ron Davies wrote this, and one might assume his version was first. Looks like Three Dog Night released their album in spring 1970, while Davies’ album came out that summer. I liked the rootsy, bluesy version, and voted for him.
Dave Edmunds also does a good job, and almost equals Davies.
