Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

Easy call today. The first and third contestants stayed too close to the original, while somehow failing to approach the magic of The Undertones version. The second guy changed it up in a creative way, and sounded good doing it.

Kitty and Legless deliver exceedingly straightforward takes but they were done well … lots of reverence, enthusiasm, musicianship, enjoyment, etc. … nothing wrong with that for a venerable old classic. But Fin brought his own game to the table explete with interesting instrumentation. I was a little perturbed that he seemed to be taking it all a bit too seriously but that sly grin at the end gave it away … just a talented buffoon having fun with a great song. Raucous in a runaway!

i love the undertones. saw them open for the clash in 1979 (at the concert where the london calling photos was taken) and then again 45 years later in Amsterdam. They were great in Amsterdam, truly fabulous. I went with Legless although I loved the ukulele version.

Ah, The Undertones. What an underrated group! When you think of a Northern Ireland top five you may think of Van Morrison, Stiff Little Fingers, Undertones, Kneecap and of course Liam Neeson and the Face Smashers. Covers today by three unknowns. Fin Raucous get points for unique instrumentation. I like the lead vocals by Kitty and the Kowalskis provide solid enough backing but since they don’t alter the original they must vie with the Legless ones. Legless In Gaza have the urgency in spades. The guitars and vocals well blended like a finely tuned machine. They played it straight but did not err.
