Everybody’s Dressin’ Funny … Cover Me Impressed!

I honestly cannot think of any other artist who could have composed such a beautifully written, subtle yet cutting, satirical social commentary like the masterpiece Nick put together here. Sheer brilliance!!!

Oh the disharmony! Much like Harlan County there are no neutrals here. It is your solemn responsibility to decide which cover song prevails. In other words … Which Side Are You On!??!

Steve Adey provides a basic and adequate cover but nothing extraordinary to be found here.

Sounds of the Larch … liked it more than Adey.

Camille O’Sullivan … okay, here goes my penchant towards female vocalists again, but I just think that O’Sullivan’s version stands well above the other two contestants. She apparently has a whole live show cd of Nick Cave covers, which I will certainly seek out.

Nick gets in some good lines in this funny and snide song. After listening to Cave’s excellent pacing and delivery Steve Adey’s version just seems to drag and he offers nothing new. Sounds of the Larch gave it a quicker tempo and aided by an entertaining video they got my vote. I’ve never heard of any participants today but it looks like this comes from Camille O’Sullivan’s album of Nick Cave live covers. Right off the bat it seemed that she had a better feel for his music than the others but it got a bit theatrical. She kept the whispered part but I couldn’t help but think of Madeleine Kahn as Lili von Shtupp from Blazing Saddles.
